The Japanese do not regularly prefer a meal prepared without rice. Rice is the most popular food of the people and should be included in every meal. In Japanese cuisine, one of the dishes made from rice is "onigiri". As interior material, whatever is available at home is preferred. The original version is made from highly spiced salmon. Optionally, tuna, seasonal vegetables and foods with a hot-sour combination are used.

Ingredients for Onigiri Recipe
  • 2 cups of pilaf rice
  • 6 glasses of water
  • 1 sheet of nori (edible seaweed)
  • 80 grams of tuna (1/2 can)
  • 2 cooked eggs
  • 1 tablespoon spinach powder
  • 2 tablespoons roasted sesame seeds
  • 5 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar
  • 3 teaspoons of salt (according to your taste)

For Service:

  • 1 bowl of soy sauce

How to Make Onigiri Recipe?

  • Without washing the rice, add it to the pot with water. Cook until the rice becomes mushy.
  • Add the mushy rice to a bowl and while it is hot, add the rice vinegar, salt and sugar and stir. Cool until warm. The consistency should be such that it sticks to the spoon as in the photo.
  • Divide the warm rice into three separate bowls, add the cooked egg to one and mix.
  • Add roasted sesame seeds to the other rice and mix.
  • Add spinach powder to the last bowl of rice and mix.
  • To shape; Take a handful of rice and place it on the plate. You can also do it with your hands. Put 1 teaspoon of tuna in the middle of the rice you spread with your hand.
  • Cover the rice over the tuna and squeeze it into a triangle shape. All these steps will be quite easy due to the consistency of the rice.
  • Cut the neuri leaf into desired sizes and wrap it around the onigiri. It will stick immediately. Follow the same procedures for all rice mixtures.
  • Your onigiri are ready. If you wish, you can choose different filling ingredients for each onigiri; We only preferred tuna. Enjoy your meal!
