Ingredients for Izmir Meatballs Recipe

For Meatballs:

  • 500 grams of ground beef (meatballs)
  • 1 onion _
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1/2 piece of stale bread
  • 1/2 tea glass of mineral water
  • 1 egg _
  • 1/4 parsley (leaves only )
  • 1.5 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 pinch of cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For Other Materials:

  • 4 potatoes _
  • 4 peppers _
  • 2 tomatoes _

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup grated tomato
  • 1 glass of hot water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme

To Cook:

  • 2 cups oil
  • 2 spoonful butter

How to Make Izmir Meatball Recipe?

  • For the meatballs, soak the inside of stale bread with mineral water and squeeze out the water. Grate the onion and squeeze out its juice, chop the parsley leaves finely and crush the garlic.
  • Combine the meatball ingredients in a deep bowl, knead and leave to rest in the refrigerator.
  • Peel the potatoes, cut them into large slices, wash them, dry them and fry them in oil until only the outside turns brown. Place the fried potatoes on paper towels and lightly salt them.
  • Take the meatball mixture out of the fridge, wet your hands and tear off walnut-sized pieces. Shape them in your hands so that the potatoes are the same size.
  • Heat the butter in the pan and fry the meatballs until the outside turns brown. Set the browned meatballs aside.
  • First, fry the tomato paste and grated tomatoes in the remaining oil in the same pan. Add hot water and spices and boil for a while.
  • Fill a medium-sized baking tray with one potato and one meatball. After placing the peppers and tomatoes in large pieces in the gaps or in between, pour the sauce over all the products on the tray.
  • Bake the dish in a hot oven at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Serve Izmir meatballs hot. Enjoy your meal.
